Camera Obscura
The camera obscura was the first stage of what would become the camera we know today. The camera obscura is a box with a small pin hole or lens in the side. Parallel to the pin hole on the inside of the box is a mirror at a 45 degree angle.
In the top of the box above the mirror is a large opening; artists used this opening to put tracing paper on to trace the image that was projected through the pin hole/ lens and off the mirror. The image after being projected was inverted. The traced image was then used as a reference for painting in larger detail.

Collodian Wet-Plate Process
This process had the clear images of the daguerrotype but could also produce multiple images like the talbotype. In this process they used a clean plate of glass that has been evenly covered with colloidal. This plate is then submerged into a silver nitrate, put in the camera and exposed to light. if the glass plate friend before the photo was transferred, it would be ruined.

This machine revolutionized the camera and photographs and jump started history with motion picture and even video. The "Zoopraxiscope" works by taking one photo after another with a timed shutter and battery. |
